Bristles are soft and does smooth my hair when it is straight. The bristles are not firm enough to smooth my hair when my hair is coily. But that could cause breakage. I love it for its purpose. Smoothing my edges when my hair is straight.

Sits on top of the hair to smooth fly-aways. The bristles do not sink into strands, if your hair is thick enough. It would be great for styling tight pony tails and updos as a finishing tool. Unfortunately that's not how I wear my think hair, so it doesn't do anything for me.
